Slackline is not easy ! A fun fails compilation where you can maybe recognize yourself…
After the rodeao tutorial, the slack master Samuel Volery explains us how to backbounce mount on a longline. this trick comes from jumpline but it does work also on longline even though it’s rather tricky to pull. As usual Samuel gives us excellent advices. Try to use a mattress on your first tries.
Not the most recommendable pro tips, but this is one way to save your slack session if you left your lockers home. Today’s pro is Mac Gyver and you can copy his skills if you have two pieces of gear like on picture below : carabiner, oval or delta quicklinks, shackles.
You’ll see below the mix that can do the job. It’s naturally to be use if you have no other solution in hands because the webbing is not working perfectly. However it’s very usefull when you want to leave a short slackline on campsite and don’t want to use 2 lockers. It’s the Camp 4 dirtbag technic !
Balance Community is once again on top of the game when it comes to innovation and slack science.
The Selma fid is a kind of knitting needle. It’s for expert who are in love with slack products and enjoy to personalize their equipment.
This type of needle is used in marine to make strong rope loops. It’s actually not that easy to use properly.
It’s highly recommended to train on climbing rope or big marine ropes before using it on your final amsteel.
Balance Community offers 3 sizes at a reasonable price from $8 to $11. It’s a very strong tool and it’s fun to play with it. It’s definitly made for knitting fans and anyone who wants to dig deeper into rope science !
Tomorrow we’ll give a full tutorial on how to use it and make a loop.

Helmut Netwerker is a longline master ! As you may have noticed in our record tab, Yuri Rhodenborgh is owning the longline polyester record. However the day Yuri did that record, he wasn’t alone : Helmut was there and he also walked the longline. He also managed to beat the longline nylon record the same day !! 405 m on polyester and 283m on nylon. Helmut is a recordman !
We managed to interview Helmut and to ask him the important question : “Do you like chocolate ?”
Where are you from ?
Vienna, Austria
Since how long do you slack ?
5 years
When did you send your two world records ?
On 24.10.2014
We know that Yuri crossed the 405m too, and we can read his traning story, what about yours ?
Philipp Gesing invited me to his event and I just wanted to know how bouncing a 400m line feels.
I didn’t train especially for this line. If I go slacklining, I always train or try to push my limits.
After rigging both lines, Yuri was the first who started on the 405m (skillshot) and as nobody else wanted to, I went to the 283m (Type-18). We walked it both.
Couple of minutes later I tried the 400. I wasn’t confident with this line in first place so I needed several tries to walk the first 100m. After playing in the middle I gave the last part a try. As I managed to walk the last part without any struggles, I was self-confident enough to sent the line, so I did it.
What the longest highline you walk ?
92m
Do you have any sponsor ?
No
As you can actualy see, in France there is a debate about the possible slackline federation, what about federation in your country and are you involved ?

At the moment I am president of the federation.
Highline should be completly free or should be rules ?
To avoid accidents with flying objects (helicopters, planes, paragliders…) we have a “highline declaration formular” at our website. If you rig a highline in Austria (or at the borders close to), please fill in the form :

The ” Machard-Drisse” ! It’s the latest product made by Slack-Mountain.
If you have no jumar, you can do a machard knot on your rope. It’s exactly the same system with a webbing. This is an alternative to the line grip !
The system uses a boat drisse of 20mm in polyester that leaves the webbing straight when stretching ! It’s a great idea and it’s cheap. We are talking about 15€ vs 160€ euros for a line grip. It’s a huge gap !
It only weights 196 gr, so two times less than a line grip. We all focus about getting light gear, so it’s a good compromise.
The WLL is 800 kg and the MBS 2t4, so it’s more than reasonable.
As it’s only textile and has not metal, the lifetime of the Machard-Drisse is not as long as the line grip. Note that it’s only compatible with polyester webbing. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work with hybrides, dyneema and other textile.
So for low budget the Machard Drisse is perfect, specially if you slack on the floor. For highline, we suggest to use a line grip since it’s faster to setup.
